A Concept Artist Known For His Work With Marvel And DC Movies Reveals Some Alternate Designs For The Ten Rings Last Year Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings.
The amount of detail in the artwork is admirable, regardless of your overall opinion of the film. The new images have been posted on Jerad Marantz’s ArtStation profile.
As for the finished product in the film, the rings ended up having intricate inlay patterns with the center of the ring having a glow – blue or orange depending on the situation. Turns out, we almost got a very different look for the magic jewelry, including a very different color palette.
All of the designs that ended up on the cutting room floor had a green color, as if they were made of jade. In one design, the jade-like stone sits beneath beautifully crafted metal dragons that appear to be made of brass. Another design saw the ring’s green color glow or fade, depending on the situation. A removable jade faceplate was a render’s unique choice. A maze-like, glowing encrustation was the appearance of another. And finally, a set of rings with unique inlays in each, etched directly into the jade, was a proposed look.
Some of Marantz’s other film credits include Spider-Man: No Coming Home, Justice League, Avatar, and Dunesamong many others.
The attention to detail from artists like Marantz is part of what makes Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings one of the best original Marvel movies to date.
