Start the weekend living on the edge at the opening of Pushing the Limits: Donald Martiny + Amy Genser. On Fridays at 5:30 p.m., Amy Simon Fine Art in Westport is hosting an exhibit reception for an exhibit that runs through December 31. Donald Martiny creates immediately frozen oversized brushstrokes that are made from his own movements, defined by the physicality of his body. Amy Genser’s paintings reflect her fascination with the flow of water, the shape of beehives, and the organic irregularity of plants, flowers, rock formations, barnacles, moss and algae.
Then, Saturday at 2:30 p.m., Connect-Us Bridgeport presents CU on stage!, their annual community talent show featuring young artists from Bridgeport. Connect Us is an organization that connects suburbs and urban neighbors to improve the quality of outcomes for young people living in communities of concentrated poverty. Seeing is believing!
At 4 p.m., Westport’s newest contemporary art gallery, The Contemporary Art Modern Project (CAMP Gallery), opens its November exhibition, An autumnal ode to past seasons, featuring the works of New York-based Nicaraguan artist Franck de las Mercedes. The opening reception features live jazz from Chris Coogan and Linda Couturas from 5 to 7 p.m.
And don’t miss the special collaboration between The Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum and the Ridgefield Symphony Orchestra at 6 p.m. This is the first concert of the RSO Quartet, performer of chamber music selected to accompany the Hugo McCloud exhibition, From where i stand. During the performance, musicians will develop the links between music and art, playing works by William Grant Still, uniquely “American” selections by Antonín Dvořák and Samuel Barber, and contemporary composer Kenji Bunch.
Missing live theater? At 8 p.m., Norwalk’s Music Theater of Connecticut opens its new musical, Falsettoland, Written by William Finn and James Lapin with music and lyrics by William Finn, you’ll set off on a journey with Marvin, a neurotic New Yorker, and his lovable but dysfunctional family as they prepare for his son’s bar mitzvah.
Also at 8 p.m. at Ridgefield Playhouse, arts advisory board member, Oscar winner, and more Oscar winner than any other living composer, Alan Menken puts on a multimedia show in Connecticut: A Whole New World of Alan Menken –thirty years of hit songs, movies and musicals – The Little Mermaid, Aladdin, Beauty and the Beast, and more! In this one-man show, the legendary storyteller sings some of his most beloved arias while accompanying himself on the piano.
On Sundays at 1 p.m., meet painter Kelly Rossetti and photographer Joanna Lentini at the Norwalk Art Space. These artists are presented in the current exhibition, Between the fuzzy lines, and the conversation moderated by David Green of the Fairfield County Cultural Alliance is sure to be inspiring and intriguing.
It’s time for celebrations at Fairfield’s Art / Place Gallery (an artist-run non-profit gallery that shares space with the Fairfield Theater Company) Sunday at 2 p.m. ET. The 40th anniversary members’ lounge The opening reception will uplift a class on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of the Museum. It includes a wall of small jobs and assorted sizes of jobs on others, all in a variety of themes, sizes, and media. To see until January 2.
If you can’t attend the reception, take a look at the exhibit right before heading to the FTC warehouse for The FIXX and the Fastball At 20 o ‘clock. One of the most innovative groups to emerge from the MTV era in the early 1980s, this group has become a fixture on the American pop charts as one of the many British New Wave groups that have conquered the airwaves in the States. -United at the time.
